Your access control stations are fixed in place. But your RCA and
your RWP may not be. So we developed the first complete access control
system that you can take anywhere you need to perform an access
event.
The MAC system-Mobile Access Control-uses a database and an application
installed on Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). To enter a remote
RCA, rad workers enter information about identification, RWP and
dosimeters into the PDA, and receive appropriate instructions. Additional
dose data is entered upon exit. Access data is transferred to the
main database by placing the PDA in its cradle attached to a workstation
on the network, and MAC downloads transaction information into the
Sentinel database or a stand-alone database (for clients not using
Sentinel). Individual records are then updated, and updated data,
such as new RWPs, dose margins and team authorizations are added
to the PDA database.
MAC is an ideal mobile access control solution for nuclear plants
needing temporary access points; for large nuclear sites such as
DOE facilities, where access points may move or not have network
connections; or for smaller licensees not requiring the service
of larger, expensive systems.

The Access Control application operates on a Personal Digital Assistant
running Windows CE 2002 with a minimum of 16 megabytes of memory.
MAC will even accept data from bar code scanners, if the PDA is
equipped with one. In the PDA, MAC stores records of personnel,
RWPs and tasks, access transactions, dosimeter readings, etc. Data
in the PDA can be transferred to the main database either through
the PDA docking station and the MAD Synchronization Utility, or,
if so equipped, remotely via a wireless connection.
